Kathy Wingert guitars are additionally backed up by ProfessionalLuthier.com, a new tool to help guitar buyers. The Luthiers accepted by Professional Luthier have previously been vetted by one of the three major North American Lutherie Festivals – Healdsburg, Montreal, or Miami. In addition to well-focused search criteria, the list of luthiers stands out because of the unique backing of the site's creator, LMI (Luthiers Mercantile International, Inc.) To demonstrate its faith in the professionalism of the participants, LMI will cover the cost of repairs necessary due to defects in materials or workmanship should any of the Luthiers listed go out of business – retirement, medical issue, whatever and therefore not be in a position to back the instrument themselves.
LMI, as one of the main suppliers for fine woods, materials, and specialty tools is well suited to know whether a builder is reliable, good, and professional. In addition to knowing the luthiers involved, LMI is also host to the premier custom guitar event in North America, the Healdsburg Guitar Festival. For this reason, the people at LMI also know from hands-on experience the worthiness of the instruments they are choosing to back up.
The page devoted to this is bare bones, but they don't need to get fancy to make their point.
I have never failed to back up an instrument I have sold, but as an additional protection for my clients, I jumped at the chance to get on board.
I heartily encourage all guitar makers to step up and do the same.
